Parveen Dhatt

Artist member since 2019
Brampton, Ontario

Parveen is a self taught, multi-disciplinary artist who was born in Punjab, India. She migrated to Brampton, Ontario at the age of 4 with her parents and siblings.

Everyone is born a creator, in the mirror image of the universal energy itself, infinite and diverse in expression. This energy manifests in unimaginable ways, tangible one moment, mysterious and alluring in the next. Parveen approaches her work in the same way, whether it is abstract multimedia work with wax or collage portraits with found material. “I have always found it difficult to create a body of work within the parameters of the art world…I am not just one artist, but many, all in one”.

Regardless, one theme is consistent throughout all of her work, the sense of time, space and history.

In her encaustic work, layers of wax and oils are scraped, etched into, incised, and dug out much like an archaeologist digging back to reveal the treasures from the past. Great joy can be found at the discovery of things covered and hidden below. The process is chaotically intuitive, with no plan but just the mind and hand working together in meditation.

In this fast paced consumer driven world, she is trying to be mindful of leaving a minimal carbon foot print. As a prolific artist, as many of us are, Parveen wants to slow down life and reuse older work and weave them into new narratives, creating new mediums and tools in the process.

Studio visits are welcome. It's worth the drive to Brampton!

"I hope you enjoy my work as much as I love creating it!"
