This collage is part of a series called “Five Rivers” and based on photographs taken while on a trip to Punjab, India in 2017. I used plasticine as relief to separate the figure from the background, essentially ‘freeing’ the boy from the usual constraints of culture and belonging. The combination of pop art, representational and contemporary collage amplify the modern interpretation of brown bodies.
